INTRODUCTION
Meishan California Smart City Institute (MCSC-I) is a non-profit organization founded in 2020, with the goal to become a comprehensive think tank and resource hub advancing all facets of Smart development for stakeholders worldwide.
The establishment of MCSC Institute was inspired by Meishan California Smart City (MCSC), a 900-acre Smart City development in Sichuan Province, China, a landmark Smart City that will grow ever smarter into the future through new technologies and data-driven iterative improvement. The concept and intention of MCSC has always been about much more than creating a single smart, clean energy city. It also about sharing information and knowledge globally to advance progress in all facets of smart city development.
MCSC development was guided by long-standing relationships between world government and business leaders, educators, NGOs, investors, and entrepreneurs. MCSC Institute ushers in a new era that comprehends the global nature of the challenges we face and the need for global collaboration to identify effective solutions.
In response to the rise in inquiries from around the world regarding the best policies, processes, practices, and products for creating a Smart City, the idea for MCSC-I was born. All the knowledge, information, and experience from MCSC and other smart initiatives worldwide who choose to add their voices, will be disseminated through multiple platforms for the broadest possible benefit.
The strategic plan for MCSC-I is to become: (1) a go-to global resource supporting the goal of Smart development in all aspects of the built environment; and (2) a leading voice, independent and self-sustaining, in advancing smart initiatives globally with substantive influence and value.
FOCUS
MCSC Institute is focused as follows:
▪️ Becoming a global resource and research nexus for all types of Smart development, clean energy, and sustainability in the context of the built environment;
▪️ Evolving a global network of experts and thought leaders in all aspects of Smart development and clean energy, and disseminate information for advancing these targets;
▪️ Offering an Energy fellowship program to promote translational research and innovation in clean energy;
▪️ Hosting multilevel education programs and events, including conferences, courses, meetings, webinars, and workshops, to expand understanding and knowledge of Smart development;
▪️ Providing an incubation and testing platform for growing, testing and marketing new products and technologies; and
▪️ Promote networking and partnerships among MCSC-I members, companies, and organizations to leverage strengths and optimize resources and intelligence.
MCSC-I ORGANIZATION
The operations of MCSC-I are carried out by an Executive Team, headed by an Executive Director. An Advisory Board providing input to MCSC-I will consist of members whose careers have demonstrated their leadership in, and passion for, addressing climate and energy challenges that face the planet.
SMART DEFINED
“Smart” for the purpose of MCSC-I is defined as renewable, sustainable, health and wellness promoting, ethical, non-polluting, improvable, socially responsible, livable, and beneficial. Components of Smart development include clean energy, energy storage and micro-grids; clean water, air and transportation; waste recycling; food and agriculture; green space in harmony with the natural environment; all integrated with sensoring, communications, and data infrastructure. Smart development includes businesses, communities, cities, and managed natural environments, and involves data, technologies, products, processes, and policies that support these endeavors.
EXISTING RESOURCES
The explosion of Smart development around the world has been accompanied by the growth of organizations that offer programming, provide information, and create networking opportunities to advance the goals of Smart. MCSC-I is proud to add a new voice to the wealth of resources that already exist and believe that it will be complementary and supportive. MCSC-I will bring the unique strength of direct affiliation with a rising global Smart City development that is leading the call for technology supported iterative development. MCSC offers opportunities for on-the-ground application of emerging technologies and innovations, and the data they generate, to yield a practical perspective on what works. MCSC-I is committed to advancing the Smart development goals captured in the MCSC slogan: “Smart Made Smarter”.
