Richard has 40 years of engineering experience in a wide variety of sectors. He holds BSE and MS degrees in engineering from Duke University. He is a Registered Professional Mechanical Engineer in California, Nevada, and Arizona; and a Registered Professional Civil Engineer in California, Arizona, and Washington. Richard is also a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) in sustainable design.
Richard Henrikson's expertise is in utilities infrastructure and building systems, encompassing HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, PV solar systems, complex central plants, cogeneration, thermal energy storage, advanced energy management systems, and renewable energy systems. He has extensive experience in the survey, master planning, analysis, and design of new buildings and campus environments, as well as the modernization of existing facilities.
Richard Henrikson is especially experienced in incorporating sustainable design principles into his designed projects, whether they be for LEED certification or for “net zero energy” facilities. He also is a skilled commissioning authority/agent in which he peer reviews and conducts functional performance testing of building systems to ensure that they prove out the design intent and the sustainability principles.
He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors for innovative, energy-efficient design solutions, including a national first-place ASHRAE Energy Award for a unique, integrated waste disposal and energy system for a San Diego medical center.
