Joseph H. Guth, J.D., Ph.D., is a member of the California and New York State Bars, has a law degree from New York University, a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Madison, Wisconsin and an undergraduate degree in biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley.
Joe has worked as an environmental lawyer for NGOs, including the Natural Resources Defense Council, Center for Environmental Health and the Science & Environmental Health Network. Joe’s principal areas of interest are in regulation of chemicals and green chemistry policy; litigation to enforce environmental laws; and progressive environmental policies such as the precautionary principle, ecological economics, the public trust doctrine and other legal principles focussed on sustainable preservation of global ecosystems. Joe has also taught graduate courses in chemicals policy and green chemistry at the UC Berkeley Center for Green Chemistry.
Joe has also worked as an intellectual property lawyer on both corporate and litigation matters for law firms as well as pharmaceutical, biotechnology and biofuels companies in New York, California and Switzerland.
